You should establish as many relevant social media pages as you can before launching your campaign. Work on getting people excited and build a following so that when your campaign is officially launch, you will have audience that is primed and ready.

Additionally, you should do some research on how to use each social media platform effectively for promotion. Strategies that work on Twitter, for example, may not work on Facebook.

When you do launch your campaign, ensure that it is connected to all of your social media platforms, and actively work to keep your social media pages updated (more on this in later lessons).

Important: I want to mention this here, though you will hear me repeat it later in the course as well. Your updates should not consist of endless requests for money. This can feel like spam, and you will lose people’s interest. Direct request for donations should only occur in 10-20% of your posts. (Yes, you will hear me repeat this again and again.)

Instead, post “behind the scenes” pictures, articles and other news related to your campaign. You can celebrate milestones… the first $1000 you raise, your first 100 “likes”, your first $500 donor or reaching the halfway point to your goal. Also, social media is a great way to publically thank each of your donors (unless they wish to remain anonymous).

In any case, the important thing to know at this point, is your campaign page will be connected to your social media pages. So make sure your social media platforms are set up. We will talk more about creating content for them later.
